# 165. ¿Qué sucede en pacientes con HTA?

La **HTA es un factor de riesgo independiente junto con la edad y otras enfermedades cardiovasculares** que se asocia a evolución más grave y mayor mortalidad (239). La **fisiopatología de esta asociación es desconocida**. La CDC de China recogió que, de **42.672 pacientes** hospitalizados, **tenían HTA un 3**% pero de aquellos que **fallecían, los HTA alcanzaban el 40%.** La tasa de mortalidad general era de 2,3% pero llegaba al 6% en los hipertensos. En un estudio en el norte de Italia (n:1591) de pacientes en UCI, la tasa de mortalidad general en UCI era del 26% pero entre los  que fallecían los hipertensos suponían el 63%.
